Shorebuilt, LLC is the building and development company formed in 2002 by David Ward and Tom Laney.  David Ward is the president of Ward Realty Corp., which under the leadership of his father, A.H. Ward, began developing Topsail Island in the late 1940's.  The neighborhood of Channel Bend, with its winding roads and natrual setting, is a good example of the Wards' commitment to protecting the island's natural resources while providing for future growth.  Although David worked under his father as a teenager, David began building and developing Topsail Island in 1976 and has played an intregral part in making Topsail Island what it is today.  David is also a licensed architect and this background has proven very valuable to our clients.

Tom Laney began building homes in 1985.  He was an award-winning builder/developer in Raleigh when he decided to move back to his hometown of Wilmington. While in Raleigh, Tom developed several attractive neighborhoods, one of which, Sagewood Square, won the prestigious Sir Walter Raleigh Award For Community Apprearance. Serving as the primary builder in these Raleigh neighborhoods, Tom was there as each house was built. Being at the job site each day allows Tom to study that day's progress and to make sure that the plans are being followed correctly. It also enables Tom to keep his clients up to date with the progress of each new home. Tom's clients have found that his hands-on approach and timely reports made the homebuilding experience less stressful and more enjoyable.

As friends who shared the same building philosophy, Tom and David decided to form a building company that would only build a few homes each year.  This strategy allows them to be personally involved in the entire construction process of each home. This involvement would insure quality control and better communication with their clients.  With David's knowledge and experience in coastal construction and Tom's hands-on management philosophy, clients can look forward to an enjoyable and positive building experience.
